What do we have in Sgombou?
- Go down to the end of our road, turn left onto the old road and 20 m further on is the Lucciola Garden restaurant, run by Angeliki and Yiannis and already becoming known as one of the most original and best places to eat Greek cuisine with a difference: lovely décor inside, shady garden. During the season it is open every evening except Mondays: Sunday all day : in winter Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings, Sunday all day. Good idea to book, especially Sunday 6934387701.
- At MARIA’s grillroom, 500m along the main road to the right, they prepare a daily dish such as moussaka, pastitsio, bean stew and other vegetarian dishes, as well as cooking souvlakia and chops etc. on the grill. Nice wine, excellent value, friendly family run atmosphere: open all day except Sundays, delivery/take-away service. 26610 90300. Next door is a grocer’s shop with fruit, vegetables, dry goods.
- Going down to the main road, turn left and 200 m along on the right you will find Sissy and Sophocles at CORFU CERAMICS producing beautiful work in their own distinctive style and colours. They are always happy to show people round, explain their designs, and let you browse.
- Next door for meat-eaters is the ΑΛΛΑΝΤΙΚΑ which produces the Corfu range of ham, bacon, and sausages from local stock. You can buy direct from them.
- A little further along you will find the CREPERIE at the Avin petrol station
- The MEZEDOPOLEIO in the neighbouring hamlet of Trifouliatika, up the hill past Lucciola is open every day for drinks, coffee, and choice of fresh home-cooking.
- 1 km to the right on the main road is the EMERAL patisserie and breadshop , always packed but their efficient service ensures that you never wait. Croissants, pies, bread of all kinds including DInkel, cornbread and all the festive products: baklava, cream cakes, biscuits, ice cream, good coffee in their seating area or to go.
- Tzavros junction, 2km away towards Corfu town, really has all the shops you need: an excellent fruit and veg shop with local produce, honey, free-range eggs and a fine bread cooked over wood: a fish shop with fresh catch every day and a lady owner who gives good advice on what to buy and how to cook it: another very good grillroom; a supermarket; 3 butchers (we recommend the one between the supermarket and the pharmacy): an ATM, a pharmacy, and round the corner on the Dassia road, the post-office, and a general store with newspapers and Perithia icecream – an expensive delicious treat. And there are now 5 coffee shops as well! This is also where the closest sea is.
