Corfu's famous greenery is due to the winter rains, it can pour for days, but it snows maybe only once a year, so that is quite an event. Temperatures do dip down below zero frequently at night, but rise to about 12 C during the day in the coldest months, sometimes a lot higher with bright sunshine - and the clarity and brightness of many winter days make glorious weather for walking, cycling, sailing, even swimming and other outdoor activities.
Christmas is low-key without the commercial hype of other countries; New Year is the day for present-giving and partying. Then comes Carnival which is three weeks of mayhem, followed by the run-up to Easter when the whole island wakes up to the fact that the new tourist season is almost here.
