Solo Vocal Concert with Meri Nikula
Vendredi 15 Juillet 2016, 09:00pm

“12 years ago was the first time and the last that I heard Meri’s voice live. Since then it resides in me carrying light and space, carrying joy, through my fibers, since then I long for the next time.”Radiant Voice 1

Friday 15th of July at 21:00

Solo Vocal Concert

This concert is both an artistic as well as a healing experience. Meri has created a new music genre, Global World Music. No words, no instruments - only One Human Voice. Inspired by all vocal traditions in the world. One voice in layers, in various colours and textures. Creating collages of voices, what she calls her Vocal Mosaics.

This evening will be special, a beautiful, intimate event to really feel embraced by the voice. In her concerts, Meri creates all the layers from the beginning, recording everything live in the moment. Pure voice in its purest expression. Meri will sing both existing Vocal Mosaics andimprovisations that arise in the moment.

INITIATION:

'' Alone in the arctic forest, night, -20°C. An old tree forming a portal calling me for a dialogue. In the darkness light leads the way to reveal and to enchant. I let in the essence of light to shine from my heart through my being, through my throat, to sing out a siren song. This is a siren of the shamans. The siren of all times and all places. The siren of the night and of the light. ''

‘’ Tuning in with ourselves, our senses and our intuition, we can use our bodies and voices to communicate with the wordless parts of ourselves. Through conscious breathing, sound vibration, the awareness of our sensing bodies in stillness and in movement we can release and enjoy the unlimited creativity within. ‘’

Saturday 16th July 17:00-21:00 & Sunday 17th July, 10:00-14:00

“Voicing Your Body” Workshop

This workshop is open everyone interested in creative self-expression and deeper self-knowledge. We release our voice and body from their habitual ways of expressing, to become sensitive and curious again. We deepen our awareness through breathing, movement and voice work inspired by transformational healing practices as well as contemporary dance and experimental vocalising. We learn to use our voices freely and to communicate directly with our sensing bodies.

Voice is the bridge between the visible and the invisible in us. Body is our instrument, the physical form that resonates with sound, a pathway from where voice reaches out as waves vibrating through air. Since our first cry right after birth, our voice is a very powerful expressive force. Most of us scale down on our ability to use voice, we narrow the range as we become socially trained and the use of voice becomes categorised as appropriate or inappropriate. In this workshop we release the social codes and find innovative ways of 'sounding' the body, extending our vocal range and variety of expression. How do we actually produce sound, what happens in the body when we use our voice?  We get in touch with our inner resonance, expanding outwards. Letting body and voice guide us between the visible and the invisible, we can experience the freedom of finding and sharing unknown territories within.

The aim of this course is to get in touch with our inner world by exploring and expressing the wordless within. This process is both dynamic and meditative, receptive and creative. We expand our experience of being and moving in the body and widen out perspective on what ‘singing’ could mean.

Voicing Your Body is a relaxing, rejuvenating and inspiring experience for anyone interested in creative self-knowledge. No previous singing or dancing experience is necessary.

What participants are saying:

'' I really enjoyed your workshop and it opened some new possibilities in my everyday world. In my singing, my body, all these things are still floating around.''

''One of the things that struck me the most was how easily we all tuned in, and after that I had the feeling that communication through movement is possible. I can say things without thinking in words. I can tell you things without thinking. ''

'' It's intuitive, playful, and creative - what more do you need in life? ''
