sotai small

Unbind the body and return it to its original form!

7 day targeted training for acupuncturists and bodywork practitioners, including osteopaths, physiotherapists, shiatsu, Thai, and other massage modality therapists, reflexologists, yoga and martial arts practitioners

With Ilaira Bouratinos, Internationally renowned instructor of Oriental Therapies and author of the bestselling book A Practical Guide to Acupoints

What is Sotai?
The sotai reverse motion method is a unique form of therapy that uses the body's own abilities to restore its natural alignment whilst relieving stress and promoting optimum health. Dr Keizo Hashimoto, who coined the phrase ‘sotai’ in 1933, developed the system mainly to help treat orthopaedic disorders, creating this Japanese form of osteopathy.

See our discussion for more details on the principles of sotai.

Sotai Intensive Training information
20th-27th April 2019
This intensive one week training covers 60 hours of a full range of basic and advanced sotai techniques. The reverse motion will be skilfully combined with stretching, manual pressure techniques and physical manipulation borrowed mainly from Oriental therapies including shiatsu and acupressure. Also acupuncture will be applied by those participants qualified to do so. During the last two days of the training, clinical practice with patients who have specific disorders and physical or structural problems as well as energetic or psycho-emotional complaints will be included in the practice sessions. Self-sotai exercises will also be applied throughout the week, particularly during the morning class. The training also includes three webinars that will be held in the month following the training.

The training is mostly practical and we will be applying reverse motion with stretching and corrective bodywork techniques within the group for most of the teaching sessions. Also the principles of Oriental medical treatment and psychology will be discussed throughout.

Another key focal point of the training is the correct usage of the practitioner’s body weight, posture and movement from the hara (centre of gravity). In order to maximise strength and efficiency during treatment application we will also explore the principles of energy focus and correct use of the breath.

During the training we will be examining posture and other physical characteristics in detail, as well as the acupuncture meridians and points which are used at the same time to augment the treatment.

The purpose of the one week training is not only to learn the technique, but also to offer participants the full benefit of the treatment since everyone will be receiving the corrective procedures. The objective is for everyone to come out straighter, stronger and more balanced!

Our goal is for participants to truly rejuvenate whilst enjoying the company of like-minded therapists in the beautiful surroundings of Case Lucia and Corfu’s wonderful beaches, town and villages during the free hours. Participants may also choose to stay for a few days longer and enjoy the celebrations of Easter, Greece’s most important spiritual holiday.
