African Dance & Dance therapy Workshop
Rhythm is everywhere. Dance is a natural tendency. Rhythm in the body, rhythm through the body, rhythm in every daily routine, in every social and individual experience. Rhythm which can be transformed to dance, a dance that we find in the depths of every culture as an integral part of ritual and celebration.
"Dance was born at the beginning of all things together with Love and appears in its most primal form in the rhythm of heart and breath, the alternation of day and night, the change of seasons, the movement of planets and stars." , Lucian the Samosate
Dance therapy through Primitive Expression
Primitive Expression is a dance therapy technique that has its roots in African-American culture, is based on Katherine Dunham's idea of universal movement and takes its name from "primitive", in the sense of first, basic and fundamental. The primitivism, the rhythm, the symbolism, the playing atmosphere, the voice, but also the way the dance therapist, the group and the individual interact are some of the basic characteristics of the technique. The rhythm in Primitive Expression is given through the African percussion, djembe. The beat of the drum evokes archaic senses, such as the beating of the heart and the rhythm of the breath. The coordination of the drum with the heartbeat awakens the impulse of life, the vital energy is awakened with the vibrations that the person feels throughout his body, which call him to follow them, to move, to walk.
African Dance
Via a dance journey in the depths of Africa, we travel through space and time, we meet different tribes, rhythms and traditions. Through a variety of dances from different places with different stories, we will have the opportunity to experience the social and therapeutic dimension of dance, the vital energy of rhythm, the joy of our existence. The strong roots of the African elements and dynamics, the African dance vocabulary, the polyrhythm and the mime with the anatomical approach of the western dance techniques lead us to a new synthetic form of cultural and self expression. Dance becomes a source of joy and at the same time an opportunity for meeting, for celebration, for expression, sharing and communication.
